Our client, a herbalist who runs her practice from home, wanted a garden that reflected her love of nature and its healing properties. The brief was to create an inviting, edible garden with a relaxed, rustic feel.
The narrow outdoor space, typical of an inner-city terrace, presented a challenge with its continuous slope. Our solution was to introduce three distinct levels, making the garden easier to navigate and more functional. On the two upper tiers, we placed circular corten planter boxes in varying heights and diameters, providing raised beds for growing vegetables. The lower level, closest to the home, is filled with perennial herbs, while the surrounding plantings blend low-maintenance natives and exotics. Oversized sandstone steppers, hand-cut from large slabs, create a meandering pathway through the garden—an understated showcase of the bespoke craftsmanship that went into this project.
